Minecraft only uses the memory its launcher allows. Modpacks often need more than the default, but more is not always better. Use the RAM calculator for a starting value.
How much to allocate
- Vanilla or a few mods: 2–4 GB.
- Medium packs (around 50–150 mods): 4–6 GB.
- Large packs (200+ mods): 6–10 GB.
- Always leave at least 3–4 GB for Windows and other programs.
Allocating far more than needed can make garbage collection pauses longer, which feels like stutter.
