Sources we use
- Mods: compatibility and dependency data comes from each project's Modrinth page through Modrinth's public API. Mods not on Modrinth are checked by hand against their official download page, and the page says so.
- Minecraft versions and Java: Mojang's official version manifest.
- Roblox games: game names, developers and player numbers from Roblox's public game API. A weekly check flags any page whose game no longer matches.
Roblox codes
Several times a day, an automated checker reads the code lists of each game on Pocket Tactics, PCGamesN, Dexerto and Destructoid. It also reads the game's own Roblox page and the developer's Roblox group. We don't redeem codes ourselves, so a code's status says how well its sources agree:
- Active: the developer published it on Roblox, or at least two independent sites updated in the last 30 days list it as working, and no source lists it as expired. Pocket Tactics and PCGamesN have the same owner, so they count as one source, as do Destructoid and Pro Game Guides.
- Unverified: only one source lists it, the sources are out of date, or they disagree.
- Expired: sources list it as expired and none list it as working.
Every code links to each source that lists it and shows when we last checked it. When an editor confirms a code in game or on the developer's X or Discord, they set its status by hand and the checker leaves it alone. We never invent codes. A code without a source link cannot be published; the site build rejects it.
Keeping pages current
Every page shows when it was last verified. Automated jobs re-sync mod data, re-check Roblox games, list pages that have gone too long without a check, and test links. Mod and game data changes are proposed as reviewable changes. Code statuses are published by the checker using the rules above, and every change is a commit that can be reviewed and reverted.
